MUST University supports the dissemination of this work that transforms pain into hope and longing into solidarity
The loss of a child is an immeasurable pain, an emptiness that nothing can fill. Sérgio Fermino, a pastor in Campinas, experienced this pain when he lost his daughter Isabela, just 7 years old, in a tragic accident that changed his life forever. In January 2023, while walking in Lagoa do Taquaral, Isabela was hit by a 20-meter eucalyptus tree, a moment that devastated the family and the surrounding community.
But, in the midst of deep mourning, Sérgio and his wife, Gislene Fermino, found a unique way to honor their daughter’s memory: perpetuate her essence through the poetry she loved so much. Isabela, with her sensitivity and tenderness, left an invaluable legacy. In his brief life, he wrote 22 poems that capture the purity of small things — bedtime, walks on the beach, the beauty of friendship.
“Despite her young age, she had a generous heart and a deep love for others, always accompanying us in social actions and bringing joy to those who needed it most,” said Sérgio.
During the pandemic, Isabela was taught literacy at home by her father, and soon demonstrated a passion for reading and writing. At the age of four, he already liked reading books and, shortly after, he began to compose his own poems. “She was a special girl, who made a point of participating in all of the family’s social initiatives, from packing sweets for needy children to personally delivering gifts. For her, gestures of love were worth more than anything material”, declared Sérgio, moved.
This is how “Poesias de Isabela” was born, a work full of love and sensitivity, destined to touch the hearts of many. Since its launch, more than 2,300 copies have been sold, with part of the proceeds going to Associação Amar é Repartir, a social project that the Fermino family supports. The book is not just a collection of poetry; It’s a way to keep Isabela’s memory alive and share her essence with the world.
In honor of the girl who spread so much joy and kindness, the Taquaralzinho espaço Isabela Tiburcio Fermino, in the same place where the accident occurred. The space reflects the entire essence of Isabela — a place of smiles, games and learning, where her memory will be remembered forever. “I saw the essence of Isa in that place”, said Sérgio. “I saw opportunities there for smiles, games, learning, family meetings and interaction between friends, and most importantly, safety! I realized that the love and joy that Isabela always transmitted were eternalized in every part of Taquaralzinho”, declared Isabela’s father.
MUST University’s support for this project, as well as for the Amar é Repartir action — of which it is a partner and certifying the IT course — demonstrates its firm commitment to education and solidarity. By purchasing 300 copies of the book to donate to institutions, the university not only keeps Isabela’s memory alive, but also perpetuates the values of love and empathy that the girl valued so much. “This book is more than a promise from a mother to her daughter. It is a legacy of hope, which inspires and warms hearts”, emphasizes Giulianna C. Meneghello, president of the American institution.
Isabela left too soon, but her poems, full of sweetness and joy, will continue to resonate, bringing comfort and love to those who read them. Through these poems and the Taquaralzinho space, little Isabela is immortalized, reminding us that, even in sadness, we can find ways to transform pain into something beautiful and meaningful. 🙂
