Students from MUST’s Master’s in Emerging Technologies in Education are accepted into international doctorates

The academic quality of MUST University and the commitment of its students have once again been recognized internationally. Two graduates of the Master’s in Emerging Technologies in Education at MUST achieved a notable achievement: they were accepted into renowned PhD programs abroad. This result is a reflection of the dedication of these students and the academic support offered by the university, highlighting the importance of the relationship between advisor and student, which can transcend institutional limits and continue throughout the academic journey.

Former student Carlos Eduardo Junior de Moraes, graduated in 2023, was accepted into two PhD programs in the United States: one at Iowa State University and the other at the University of Nebraska. He chose Iowa State University, where he entered the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program with a specialization in Education and a focus on Educational Technology and will begin studying in the second semester. In addition, Carlos received a scholarship of almost US$21,000 per year and will work as a Teaching and Research Assistant, dedicating himself to research and teaching activities at the institution.

Carlos highlighted the positive influence of MUST on his academic journey: “MUST was very important for me in terms of research. I have a degree in Communication, Advertising and Propaganda and also in Literature. I always dreamed of teaching at university, that’s why I did my master’s degree. With the guidance of Prof. Maria Elisa and Prof. Priscila Santos, I developed very relevant research on Language Task Engagement (Engagement in learning the English language in digital culture), which was even published in Caderno magazine Pedagogical.”

Your Capstone advisor, Prof. Priscila Santos also played a fundamental role in this achievement, helping him prepare the letter of recommendation for universities. “Carlos obtained Grade A in Capstone, participated in all orientations and collective meetings, sent the TCF versions within the deadlines and demonstrated commitment by incorporating the feedback received, continually improving his work. Furthermore, he maintained a proactive stance, contributing with relevant reflections during the discussions. He has a great command over the topic he researched”, stated the professor.

Partnership that transcends borders

Another MUST student who won an international place is Jonielson Lameira de Oliveira, who was accepted into the Doctorate in Education at the National University of Rosario (UNR), in Argentina. Jonielson invited his master’s advisor at MUST, Prof. Maria Elisa Ehrhardt Carbonari, to also be his PhD advisor. “Prof. Maria Elisa’s work is admirable! She guided me in my master’s degree and helped me a lot. I’m sure that her contribution to my research in Education will be deeply inspiring.”

His doctoral research aims to collaborate technologically in the musical pedagogy of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an educational environment. “During my experience as a music teacher, teaching at different levels and age groups, I realized the challenge of teaching students with ASD. Despite my training and experience, I felt that I needed to delve deeper into this topic. As a great fan of educational technology, I decided to investigate a technological musical pedagogy, through a case study in my work environment, SESC – Casa da Música, in Belém do Pará. I hope that my research contributes to the musical teaching of professionals who work with students with ASD”, he highlighted Jonielson.

The value of the advisor-student relationship

The academic success of these two students reflects not only their dedication and excellence, but also the quality of the education offered by MUST University. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of the advisor-student relationship, which goes beyond the university and becomes a lasting academic partnership, guiding students in building their professional goals and achievements.

MUST is proud to be part of this journey and reaffirms its commitment to the academic development of its students.
